This week, I decided to get the inside scoop on one of the CWs, tesract. For those of you who don't know who tesract is, here is a picture. I asked tesract about his job and about himself as a person. Read on to find out what he had to say.
MeBeLizzi: How long have you been working for Whyville, and what made you decide to be a City Worker?
tesract: Since Dec 26th 2007. So about 7.5 years. I was underutilized at my old job (aka bored out of my mind), so Keine suggested I interview for a position with Whyville.
MeBeLizzi: What is your favorite part of being a City Worker and why?
tesract: Making new features/games and seeing a positive response from the community and working with user feedback to make the site even better.
MeBeLizzi: What is your official title as a CW?
tesract: Programmer? Honestly I'd have to check.
MeBeLizzi: What challenges do you face in doing this job?
tesract: This feels like a job interview question. Converting our chatrooms to javascript has been a challenge, since the library we are using is still in alpha/beta phase. I've had to put a lot of hours into debugging and fixing the library. I think that's one of my strengths is that I can find a way around or push through a problem even if it seems insurmountable.
MeBeLizzi: Do you have a favorite memory on Whyville?
tesract: Some of my favorite projects to work on for Whyville have been, adding a computer opponent to checkers, and keeping the BBS running quickly even while adding features, and not deleting older posts. Also the spark game in Raven Island, and Wilson City rescue outside. WCR has a lot of neat things going on that users might not even notice, like cars behavior at intersections (they follow the rules just like irl), or the behavior of the emergency vehicles.
MeBeLizzi: What is your favorite color?
tesract: Sky Blue
MeBeLizzi: What kind of music do you listen to?
tesract: Jpop/Anime and rock n roll mostly
MeBeLizzi: If you could have 3 wishes, what would they be? You cannot wish for more wishes.
tesract: Independence/freedom to live and work on whatever I felt like. Continued good health maybe? And I might have to save the last one.
MeBeLizzi: If you only had 1 week to live, what would you spend your last days doing?
tesract: Probably travel and do crazy stuff like skydive/snowboarding/parasailing etc.
MeBeLizzi: What is your opinion on Justin Bieber, One Direction, and Miley Cyrus respectively?
tesract: Who? JK, I don't really listen to them, see #7
MeBeLizzi: Do you believe in aliens?
tesract: Aliens as in visiting earth, not really, aliens as in they are out there somewhere: The universe is a ridiculously huge place to only have life on only our one little planet.
MeBeLizzi: Give an inspiring piece of wisdom to the citizens of Whyville.
tesract: Stay in school. Follow your dreams? *Shrug*
