"Ooh I need your love babe, yes you know it's true!" is the first line of the Beatles song "Eight Days a Week". It also happens to be the first words sung at the very first concert I attended in San Francisco, California, hosted by Sir Paul McCartney.
Paul McCartney was the bassist for the mega-popular band, the Beatles. He holds a world record for most records sold, has been knighted for his services to the music world, and had the honor of closing Candlestick Park in style. The Beatles played their final concert there, so it only made sense to have him finish his tour here too! I believe 50,000 fans attended the concert.
I'm not going to go into many details about the concert, but I did want to share some amazing pictures I took at the concert. However, one thing I thought was very cool and I wanted to share is how he changed guitars almost every song, and he held his Hofner bass in the air at the end. Also, before a Wings song (his second and also very popular band) he would say "This is for the Wings fans!" He also played songs from his most recent album, New.
This is a shot of the fantastic performance of "Live and Let Die", a song he wrote for a James Bond movie. If you've heard it, you'd know why the fireworks and fire on the stage was necessary.
This is a picture of the stadium while Paul was singing "Let It Be". Many people got out their cellphones, flashlights, or other light source and held them in the air for him. It was a very beautiful moment.
This is a beautiful shot of him from my seat, performing from the piano. You can't really see him on the stage; he's in the corner.
This was taken before the show; he started at nine and this was taken around eight. You can see the fog settling in at the hills and the fans starting to file into their seats.
I am very grateful for being able to attend this concert, as to us Bay Area natives it's a privilege to have such an accomplished man in our city. I will be sad to see this stadium go, but it certainly did have a grand finale!
