Would you want your flatulence to smell like chocolate? Now you can. Christian Poincheval, a 65-year-old French inventor from the village of Gesvres in Western France, has invented a pill that makes farts smell like chocolate. He sells them online at pilulepet.com, 9.99 Euros (about $12.50) for a jar of 60 pills.
Why would he invent something like this? It started in 2006, when he was eating out at a restaurant with friends and their flatulence got out of hand. "Our farts were so smelly we were nearly suffocated. Something had to be done," he says of the incident. So, he began researching. He discovered that the smell of flatulence changed according to diet. When vegetables are consumed, the smell is similar to a cow pat, but when meat is eaten, farts became much worse smelling. After months of research, he invented a pill made of all natural ingredients such as seaweed, bilberry, vegetable coal, fennel, plant resin, and cacao zest. The pills not only make your farts smell like chocolate but also reduce intestinal gas and bloating. The pills, under the name Lutin Malin (Crafty Imp), have been selling since 2006, and several hundred are sold every month. If you don't want chocolate scented farts, you can buy rose and violet scented variants. And if your dog also suffers from terrible flatulence, a flatulence controlling fart powder for dogs is also available for sale.
The description on the website says, "Every year we wonder if we should do it and this year it is done! Our renowned fart pill is back with a xmas fragrance based on real cocoa. You can now fart through to the New Year in grand style. The pills have the usual benefits of our recipe like reducing intestinal gas and bloating." These pills have been approved by French health officials, and Poincheval reckons that these pills would be much needed for Christmas. "Some buy them because they have problems with flatulence and some buy them as a joke to send to their friends. Christmas always sees a surge in sales," he said regarding his customers. According to the website, you should take 2-6 pills per day at meal times.
Personally, I think this pill is a great, albeit strange, invention. If I were given a chance to test it, I would. Would you?
