This is a painting I did recently of a sunrise over the ocean. It is slightly abstract and is not supposed to be super realistic. It is done in acrylic paint on a 24" x 24" canvas. I used a brush to do a very basic background, and then I used a palette knife for the rest of the painting.
I love using bright, contrasting colors in my paintings. I feel like it makes them a lot more interesting to look at and enjoy. I think no matter if you are the best painter in the world, or the worst, if you know what colors go together you can make something that is easy to look at and will be desired by many.
I consider myself a perfectionist. If it's not on canvas the same way that I see it in my head, I will keep messing with it trying to "fix" it. The palette knife allows me to be more . . . spontaneous? I feel like with the palette knife I don't have to be perfect. I also like the messy, textured way it makes it look. This is one of my favorite paintings I have done to date. It sold for $125.00 the day after I posted it.
Do not create just to please others. Create to please yourself. If you love what you do and what you create, others will too.
