This is an oil painting I did on a 16" x 20" canvas about 5 days ago. This is only my 2nd oil painting, but my first oil seascape. My other one was flowers, but let's not talk about those . . . LoL . . .
Anyways, this was a new experience really. The paint is so much different, using turpentine instead of water, and the drying time, are just a few differences from what I am used to.
When I first finished it I sent a picture to a few friends, and one said that it looked very primary (that you could clearly see all my primary colors and not many others.) My excuse is that this IS my second oil painting and I only had 4 tubes of paint. This is also how I came up with the name.
I'm proud of it, but it's not my best. I like how vivid the colors are and how "primary" it is. It's different than my regular stuff (the colors, not so much the style.) Will I look back on this painting in a month and be like, "Why did I ever think this was good???" Probably. Do I care? Nope.
The water could be better. The sky could be too. I had fun painting it though and I plan on experimenting with oils more in the future. Hopefully someone will buy some too so I don't go broke paying $60.00 every time I buy a few tubes of paint. (THIS IS WHY PEOPLE DON'T GIVE AWAY PAINTINGS FOR FREE! IT'S EXPENSIVE!)
