Hola Whyvillians! I recently interviewed people on their music tastes. I interviewed 3 Whyvillians: BanjoMann, BestViola, and MrCowBoy. If you read, you'll see somebody named "BritishViola", BestViola's fiance! Here's what they all had to say.
iBeMary1: When did you first become interested in music?
BanjoMann: Hmm, I don't know man. Just when I was young I guess and became more and more interested through the years ya know.
BestViola: I've always been interested in music. My dad was a jazz guitarist for a long time, so I was raised on some great tunes.
MrCowBoy: When I was a little boy I remember riding in our truck listening to music so ever since I was born.
BritishViola: When I heard Seal's "Kiss from a Rose".
iBeMary1: What genre do you hate the most?
BanjoMann: I don't know man. I don't really hate any genre. Every genre has its goods and bads. I can't think of one where I just hate everything about ya know, but if i had to pick one I guess hipity hop rap.
BestViola: If I had to pick, it would probably be country. I can't get into the whole "I love my tractor, I was dumped" thing.
MrCowBoy: I dislike probably close to ALL rap music. Can't understand it and honestly it's annoying.
BritishViola: I don't really hate many genres.
iBeMary1: What genre do you like the most?
BanjoMann: Rock n roll man! I'm a rocker through and through! Especially all fuzzed out BWAAAAAAAA BWAAAAAAAAA BWWWWAAAAAAAA BWWAAAAAA BWWWWWAAAAAA doomy slow and low stuff ya know. But hey man I listen to anyting if it's good.
BestViola: Classical, with alternative being a close 2nd.
MrCowBoy: I am a true fan of Country and Rock. (80's)
BritishViola: Alternative.
iBeMary1: Has music made a big impact on your life?
Banjomann: Mmm, I don't know man. Not really. I mean I do love music I love searching for and finding new music and stuff ya know, but I can't really think how it's had an impact on my
life. Maybe making friends because you like the same or something? I dunno man.
BestViola: Yes, music is my career at the moment. I teach music lessons and do recording gigs on the side.
MrCowBoy: Music inspires me so I guess yeah
BritishViola: Somewhat. I liked it enough that I learned 5 different instruments.
iBeMary1: Many singers including Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande have changed a lot since they first launched
their music career. Are there any stars you used to like but now hate, and vise versa?
BanjoMann: Yeah kinda. Mostly not because they changed their style or anything, but just because I grew out of it or just got sick of it or something. My music taste is always changing man, just like everyone's, just like the artists. I don't think you should hate someone just because they change their style ya know. Just listen to what you enjoy, if their new album isn't your cup of tea well that's fine, but I don't know why you'd hate them for it.
BestViola: Not really, but artists that I used to like that come out with new albums that are disappointing makes me sad. The most recent Smashing Pumpkins album is an example of this. It's just not good.
MrCowBoy: I don't think so . . .
BritishViola: Kings of Leon. If you look up "sellout" in the dictionary, you'll find the definition for "sellout", then listen to Kings of Leon from their 3rd album onwards, and you'll realize what tremendous sellouts this makeshift boyband are.
iBeMary1: What is your opinion on country music?
BanjoMann: I have a love hate relationship with country music. The big Nashville music row dudes on the radio and stuff, I absolutely can't stand that. It all sounds like a red neck version of a Poison record, so I am not even considering that in this. But a lot of the old like outlaws of country music like Willie and Waylon and stuff, I dig it man. There's a few newer cats that I like, but even most of 'underground' country that's supposed to be like saving county music, it's
just juvenile man. Drugs and women. It sounds like it would appeal to 16 year old red neck kids. I don't man. Country is weird.
BestViola: I like some older country music, but won't go out of my way to listen to it usually.
MrCowBoy: As I stated earlier I love country music. I grew up around it and still sing to this day.
BritishViola: I like older country music like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. Modern country music is basically songs about trucks, blue jeans, alcohol, some girl, and seeing as the singers are usually multimillionaires from an already rich background, its a little hard to buy into the whole "working
person" schtick (see Taylor Swift, rich parents).
iBeMary1: If there was one song that could be your life soundtrack, what would it be?
BanjoMann: Hmm, tough question man. Like a song that describes my life?? I don't know, probably Longview by Green Day or something. But just any long to listen to forever or something? Probably Led Zeppelin III. The whole album.
BestViola: Rite of Spring by Stravinsky only because I like it.
BritishViola: See question one.
iBeMary1: Speaking of singers, what do you think about Ariana Grande and her "doughnut incident"?
BanjoMann: I heard about that. I don't know what happened though and I can't be bothered to look it up. She licked a doughnut or something? Who cares just throw the doughnut away or heck I'm sure someone would pay more if it was licked by her. People crazy ya know.
BestViola: Who? Is that the girl that licked the doughnuts? Was that supposed to be some rebellious act? Didn't Elvis shoot TVs? Rock and rock, Ariana... I guess.
BritishViola: Who? That really sounds like an analogy for something horrible.
