I recently started taking a jewelry course at my college as it was suddenly required for me to take a third year 3D course for my Fine Arts degree. At first, I was very frustrated at being forced to take a course that had absolutely nothing to do with my major of Media Arts, but as the semester has progressed I've learned to really appreciate this jewelry course.

My current art practice focuses a lot on sound art and creating artwork by using sound as a medium (perhaps that's a good article topic for me at some point, if anyone is interested in hearing more on that?) and being in this jewelry course has opened up a lot of avenues of inspiration by listening to the sounds that the tools used in the shop make- perfect for a sound piece. I'm not someone who is well versed in creating objects with their hands. I usually focus more on two dimensional artworks, or computer/electronic/video/sound based artworks. So suddenly being forced to make things with my hands has been a challenge for me, but I feel as though it is furthering my art practice and helping me to become more well rounded as an artist.

I thought I would share with you the first thing I have made so far in this course. It's a sterling silver band ring, with a copper band ring overtop. The copper band has the imprint of lace fabric pressed into it, and the design is completed with a set stone, a moonstone to be exact.

There are a few solder spills that got on the copper band that adds some silver onto the copper, but overall I'm happy with how this ring turned out and am excited to make more in the weeks to come!
