Today I'm here to introduce my current self-owned pets. Until mid 2015, I've owned hamsters and fishes but had never considered owning a rat. Until I truly saw the huge difference between wild rats and domesticated rats, I had always thought of them as filthy and disease-infested. Domestic rats, AKA Fancy rats, are very sweet and make great companions!
I currently own an agouti self male named Rumble and a black-hooded odd-eyed male named Kitt. This summer, my first rat passed and I recently got Kitt off of someone who was re-homing him. Both rats are very sweet and have never bitten me!
In my experience, rats make amazing pets. It's extremely important to house them in pairs or groups of the same gender as they'll otherwise be very lonely. Ask anyone who owns them for some other great advice (feel free to contact me as well)! In conclusion, I highly recommend you look past their horrible reputation and look into adopting them! I can guarantee you that their little sweet faces will steal your heart as they did mine!
