Reason to Complain? Eat This!

A lot of the talk around town seems to have to do with what we should or should not be able to say anymore. You want to be able to say things like minor swears, or at least be able to abbreviate them, and a lot of you complain when you need to rephrase a simple sentence so that it isn't as bad-sounding. But a lot of you don't get the big picture, the real point at all.

I'm bettyjoe, here to wrap a few issues together to make a point, to make sense.

Firstly, have you ever been in an English or history class, or read a book? Even in elementary school, you get some book-reading knowledge. A lot of things that are in books today could have been banned from us just less than a hundred to fifty years ago because of the fact that they weren't "proper". In some parts of the world, that's still true. If they made you think, or question the way that people were living, then books were bad, they were evil. Aren't you glad that you are living now, that you could even be reading this?

There once was a book called "The Origin of Species" by this Darwin guy, and a lot of people wanted him and his booked banned for the ideas inside of it. Now, even though I don't agree with the ideas that he stated, that doesn't mean that he shouldn't be able to think and say those ideas without being thrown in jail! The fact is that people wanted to stay in their cozy little lives and didn't want to have their cozy little lives questioned.

Two words: Adolf Hitler. If he got his own way in World War 2, then Whyville probably wouldn't even exist, who knows? A lot of things that we take for granted, even everyday things that we watch or read, we would not have them. Not to mention that we wouldn't be allowed to complain about it, either. His own "censorship" involved killing anyone that he didn't feel was fit to live, anyone different from him, or that wouldn't follow his own ways.

Now, on to the next part I wanted to mention, twisting two topics into one. Don't you feel good that you can CHOOSE to eat what you want? That you don't HAVE to be a vegetarian if you don't want to, don't HAVE to eat meat if you don't want to? This goes along the same lines as everything else. We all have more freedom now than if we were living 50 years ago, maybe less. And yet we complain that we want more. Fine, but first go back in time, or just read a book, and then decide if you actually have it bad.

Now, if after reading this you still complain about having to revise a few words around, then I suppose you are hopeless. But I couldn't say that, either, if we didn't have freedom of speech. Oh, and by the way, before I forget, freedom of speech is only reasonable if you are not hurting another person in your usage of words. When it gets to that, you are abusing your privilege.

Well, I think I gave you enough to think about for one day!

*Hoping that it gets in for the recent political discussions*, this is bettyjoe, going out to outer space for one last visit home.
