Honored or Outcast?

Here Ye, Here Ye...

Hey all, Lilbeaut here. Now, I haven't been very tuned in with the Times lately. I've been all over the globe, because it's summer! Many of you must be real happy (as I am) that everything having to do with a horrible thing called school is left behind you for a while.

So, I read the Times, got clued in (no more clulessness), and now I'm clueing you all in with a few different things going on in Whyville that many of you may not even know about, or have heard about but positively need what I have to say. I'm really hoping that City Hall will respond to all 3 of the things I am talking about.

First off, this 911 report thing. Now people, lets think logically, how many people do you think have been fined, taped, or even banished since that article about becoming part of the Whyville Patrol came out? A LOT! (That's my opinion, I don't know if it's true.)

It starts as lots of outcasts (because, how many popular people want to be known as a snitch?) wanting to be something in the community. So they lie around waiting rooms looking out for people who say the slightest little word. Then bam! You have been hit by the snitch.

Some people are really dumb about the whole 911 report thing. Some people think that they can report for someone not heeding their will or not giving out clams or something stupid like that. Come on, people. Do you really think City Management will do something about something as stupid as that? Most likely they will punish YOU! For such a dumb action of 911 reporting someone for not giving you their awesome looking hair you asked for? But many other people can also be smart about the whole thing. They can say something like, "You're ugly." Then you will get defensive, say some bad things, and they'll have something to report because they were being a total jerk and got you mad!

I think the entire idea is really dumb. Whyville has handled the 911 reports before, so why get power-hungry helpers to help them mess up Whyville now? How smart is that??? Is that what Whyville is teaching us??? To be total snitches that get what they want by lingering around and eavesdropping? I'm sure Whyville had no intention of making this possible. I'm sure they just wanted to get the community to get involved. Sorry guys, it isn't that great of an idea.

Next thing, is rather an idea I've been working up because I am so desperate to see everything about the Regina First Annual Town Hall Meeting. I didn't see it. Many of you are saying, "Well, that is your own fault that you didn't bother going on to Whyville when everyone announced the time." I was at a softball game in Hawaii for the Tournament of Champions. It was our final game and we were playing for the championship!

I'd like to suggest that Whyville set up some download of the Meeting. I'm sure someone must have taped it or something so there was proof that such a thing happened... please say someone did! LoL. I'm really desperate to see it.

Last thing is just this: WHEN ARE THE PLOTS COMING?!?! Every time, same old answer: "You wanted a prom instead of plots. We need more servers." Well I want a different answer this time, people. I really, really want a different answer. I want plots more than I want a good answer but a good answer about why the plots aren't here would also be good because then I wouldn't be so mad that I'm clueless!

So let's go over this: I'm hoping that City Hall (please, please, please respond) to respond to what they think of the whole 911 report thing. Respond to the downloading of the Town Hall Meeting, and respond to the whole plots issue. WHY? Please respond. I'd appreciate it.

Note from City Hall: Yes, like you said, 911 reports have mostly been working well so far. So why do we need to have a patrol team? Well, here's why. As you have been noticing, more and more people are coming to Whyville. And with the recent article about our town in the Los Angeles Times, more and more people are finding out about us.

This means that not only will more new citizens, who may not know our rules, but also more teachers, educators, parents, even potential investors and sponsors who will be looking carefully at our city. There might even be some dangerous people who will want to come and prey on our citizens.

So, it's important that we are on heightened alert, not just us city workers, but also our citizens. And that's where the Patrol Team comes in. The Patrol Team members will be citizens who have a proven track record of using the 911 report tool wisely and are on heightened alert for dangerous behaviors around town, behaviors that suggest the presence of a predator, a stalker, someone who intends harm to our city and our citizens.

Patrol Team members won't have free reign. City Workers will still review their reports just like the other ones, and, just like you said, we will be able to see very well when someone is making an unworthy report. We punish those reporters all the time, and if a Patrol Team member does it, he will lose his status. It's that simple.

I understand that many of you are skeptical of this plan. But we won't know if it'll work till we try. If it doesn't work out, we'll just terminate it. Until then, I hope you will choose to be optimistic with me.

Now let me also answer your other suggestions. We'd love to be able to let citizens download the Regina Meeting. Unfortunately, it was not taped. We really wanted to tape it, but there were some last minute technical difficulties and confusion, and it just didn't happen. Trust me, I'm just as disappointed as you are; I wasn't there to see it either!

And as for plots, well, I'm afraid there isn't a new answer. Here at Whyville City Hall, just like any other city hall, it's all a matter of priorities and making the best of our resources. Why-Passes have been helping the city out by paying for a little over 10% of our monthly expenses, which means that we still don't have money to hire more workers yet. Plus, we have to worry about the other 90% of our bills. So, when we decide what we want to do next, we not only take into consideration what citizens want, we also have to see what will give us the most bang for the buck. The one biggest complaint we hear is that Whyville is always busy. So, our most immediate project is to improve on this by adding a new server. The target for this is mid-August. Citizens tell us they want more games, more ways to earn clams, and parents and teachers tell us to have more education. As a result, we decided to make our next big project food in Whyville. You'll hopefully have fun designing meals, hanging out in the new food court, and learn something about healthy diets and nutrition as well. There'll even be ways to earn clams doing this. By comparison, having more plots isn't educational, won't earn you clams, and is a very tough project that will take our city workers loads of hours, hours that aren't paid for.

That's why more plots haven't materialized. It's all a matter of deciding how to spend our limited resources. Now, if we can get a sponsor who would give us funding to develop a new Myville where citizens can develop land, build towns, buy and sell land, and create homes and businesses, this project will get put at the top of our list. Perhaps a real estate agency might want to sponsor this? Perhaps Home Depot? Lowe's? A development tycoon like Donald Trump? If you or your parents know someone who can help, you could bring this sponsor to Whyville and solve this serious land shortage problem we have. I'd say you'd be our town hero...
