World Youth Day

This week is a very special week for Canada and most of North America. I am sure you know what I am talking about. How about a hint... could anyone say John Paul the Second?
ChinaDawl here, talking about a very important event... World Youth Day! For those of you who don't watch television and are totally shut off to the world, it is very important because Pope John Paul the Second has arrived in Toronto this very day! It has been on the news for forever now, and his arrival was broadcast live on many TV channels.
I personally don't go to church and I was never baptized, but I do believe in God. For me, it is pretty important, but I didn't quite feel that it was so important that I needed to go to Toronto to take part in the festivities. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be an awesome experience, but the Church is not a big part of my life.
World Youth Day is when the young people around the world gather in one place to celebrate and to see the Pope. This year, it just happened to be in Toronto.
This morning, I watched the arrival of the Pope. It is amazing how he can still do the things he does! Pope John Paul the Second is 82 and has the signs of Parkinson's disease. Arthritis plagues him, but still, he is here, in Canada, celebrating God with youth around the world.
When I say around the world, I mean around the world! There are people from France, Italy, Canada, and many other countries that have Christians living there. I am sure it is an awesome experience to be together for one purpose... God. Another reason to go is to meet all these people. They have about 200,000 people in Toronto for World Youth Day and some say there will be more as the week goes on.
On Sunday, July 28th, Pope John Paul II gave a mass to thousands upon millions, whether they be in Toronto or watching it on television.
World Youth Day also brings up questions about religions. I mean, in the States there is that big controversy about their pledge of allegiance. For those Canadians and others around the world, this is how it has gone, since it was edited in 1954: "I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands. One nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all." (I am Canadian myself, but don't ask me how I know it!)
Anyway, did you read that "under God" part? Yes, it is amazing how much controversy two words can be!
Okay, I have to run! Make sure to watch the news for word about World Youth Day!
ChinaDawl signing out... even though I didn't sign in... that raises another question... never mind!
