It's TIKE with another article offering tips or suggestions for other
Whyvillians. Lately I have been labeled as the "tip" boy... ha-ha... I like it.
It has its own special ring to it. This time, I'm writing about the Whyville
Times itself. This report is dedicated to the Times' History, Events, and
how to get started with writing for the Times.
The 1st issue for the Whyville Times was written back in July 8, 1999. It
only featured 2 articles, written by the Times Editor and a group
of City Hall workers. Over time, the Times progressed and became more popular.
Eventually citizens were sending in their viewpoints and opinions to make
themselves heard around Whyville.
Eventually, some Whyvillians became what is known as "Times Writers". Therefore,
they were given a status. If you had 5 or more articles published for the
Times, the workers at the Whyville Times newspaper would see if you would
make a good reporter. Pretty neat, eh?
Since the 1st issue of the Times, many things have happened and
several issues have been published once a week. There are special issues or
topics surrounding the Times such as: fashion & style, interviews, Whyville
history, science, jokes, poetry and more. There is an archives section for
looking back on past issues, a photograph section, and an advertising section
posted on each article. This stays the same throughout every week; however,
additions are added frequently. Furthermore, the Times has also made students become more interested in many educational fields in the future, such as journalism.
To let your opinions be known around Whyville, here are some tips that may
help you get started writing your own article...
Tip #1. Write about something you know, that way you will have more
knowledge and understanding on that issue. Talk about something that is
important or meaningful to yourself. Chances are someone may be interested
in it as well.
Tip #2. Ask around for ideas. Sometimes if you but together a bunch of
different suggestions, it makes the article itself better. This is because
you have a group of suggestions all rolled into one. In addition, you will
know your report is an interesting one because someone has the same
viewpoint or topic interest as yourself.
Tip #3. Be edgy. Put your own opinions into the article. This will make your
article seem more interesting. Who wants to read a bunch of facts? I sure
don't. Add a bit of you into your interview, report, or article.
Tip #4. Be creative with your ideas. Expand your knowledge about Whyville.
Talk about something exciting and daring. This will ensure your article
isn't blah, blah, blah... get the point? ;)
Tip #5. Remember to always be I.S.H. This stands for Informative, Straight
to the point, and Honest.
I hope that these tips can help you. I'm speaking from experience and being
a good guy... giving back to others in the Whyville community.
I might be back with more Times Articles... so stay tuned!
Until then,
~~~ TIKE =D
