Hey, this is suziestar. This is one of my first articles, so I hope it's
okay. (Please please put in, Times Editor!)
I was just reading some articles about cruelty to animals. There are basically
two sides to this story, and I am probably more on the doubtful side.
You see, what is being said about eating animals being cruel is actually an
opinion. If you want to be a vegetarian, fine. If not, that's good too. But
it is up to you.
Eating animals actually isn't cruelty. What do animals eat? Other animals.
Are they being cruel? No. It's nature. It is all part of a food chain and
humans happen to be at the top, so we are actually supposed to eat meat.
Actually, eating animals is human nature. Humans ARE animals.
Being cruel to animals is poaching, whipping... you get what I mean. But
eating is not on that list. It is more on the "natural" list. Things are
being taken too seriously, from my point of view. Maybe this section should
be on poaching and whipping, which is much more serious. Although,
fortunately, that isn't one of the world's biggest problems.
What I'm trying to say is, the decision to eat animals is based on an opinion of good or bad. No matter how long we keep these articles coming, there will never be a right or wrong answer, because it is all opinion. And this article is just one of
the many opinions out there, waiting to be expressed.
This is suziestar, going to live my life the way I always wanted to, eating
ALL the food groups....
Editor's Note: A good point, suziestar, and a big reason why you'll now find a Health Section in the Times! On the other hand, a few recent articles have pointed out the living conditions that many animals experience before being brought to our dinner tables. How do you feel about the chickens that have less space than a piece of paper? Is that tolerable, or is it a kind of cruelty that goes beyond the necessity of humans eating animals?
