First of all, I'd like to say hi. :)
Now, I'll start my article. :)
M for Mature... right?
I was just watching TV... flipping channels...
*flashback*
"Man... there's nothing good on..."
*end of flashback*
Then I came across the news and saw something quite interesting. They were
talking about violence in video games, and one game they mentioned was
"Grand Theft Auto 3" for the Playstation 2. This game received a rating of M
for Mature by the "Entertainment Software Rating Board". However, kids the age of your average Whyvillian still
play this game anyway (I figure that's ages 11-14). In this game you steal cars, shoot
people... even some things I shouldn't even mention.
In a survey (I'm not sure what age group or country) they found that less than 30% (I'm not certain of that number) of parents check the ratings of the games before letting their children play. From what I see, parents are worried more about movie ratings than game ratings...
Then again, it also depends on who the kids are. Some people prefer not to
play these kind of games in the first place, and some parents trust their
kids to make the right choice, and some people just don't like video games. :)
What do you think?
