This is Jill20, trying for my second time to get in the Whyville Times. I know, I know, Why-passes help Whyville grow. I'm positive I'll get an Editor's note here saying that. But still, I want to be heard. I HATE not getting into Whyville. I LOVE this site -- why should I have to pay to get in? My parents don't want to pay for me to go on a website. Do any parents want to PAY for their kid to use the web? They already are paying for AOL, or whatever service they use; they don't want to pay for another thing.
Now, I don't want to be the type of writer who just writes in the Whyville Times to complain, so I thought long and hard for an idea that could replace Why-passes!
Here's my idea: Whyville wants and needs more money, right? That's why they have Why-Passes, yes? Well, I have an idea for Whyville to get more money, without charging us! Whyville could start asking clothes stores if they want their designer clothes available in Whyville. Like, Gap, for example -- the Gap could pay to have ten Gap shirts on sale in Whyville. Accessory companies could do that too! We could start having Gucci handbags in Whyville! If we got lots of companies to do that, then Whyville would get a lot of money!
And, maybe if Whyville got a lot of money, they could afford to buy bigger servers, so EVERYONE could get in!
Now, I'm going to go get out of this waiting room! This is Jill20, signing off.
Note from City Management: We're certainly working on getting sponsors of all kinds into Whyville. As you can imagine, though, it's more effective when they hear from a lot of customers than when they hear from us -- so if you want to get the Gap or Gucci into Whyville, get together dozens (if not hundreds) of your fellow citizens and have everyone email and write letters to those companies! Let them know you want them in our town!
That said, don't expect sponsorship to take the place of Why-Passes. If citizens don't show that Whyville has value to them, companies like the Gap and Gucci won't bother with us. Ditto for those generous folks who have already invested money in our little company. They trust *your* opinions! What do you want them to hear?
