Famine in Africa

Hey, it's me QUISP. I'm writing now about a rather depressing topic...

I was watching the news this morning as I quietly waited for my aunt to pick me up so I could baby-sit my little cousin, when I saw something that brought tears to my eyes.

I saw footage from Africa. For those of you who don't know, right now it's not the best place to live. They are experiencing a severe drought (most of them are farmers). Without the drought most of them already live in poverty... now they are without food and money.

The main countries affected are Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Angola, Mozambique, Swaziland and Lesotho.

Around 13 million people are at risk of dying because of starvation and malnutrition if nothing is done.

The World Food Programme (WFP) is a United Nations (UN) agency that deals with world hunger. It is most likely the only thing that will save these people, but they still need more money.

Quite frankly, I don't think that Canada and the U.S. are doing enough to help these people. Around 30%+ of children in the US/Canada are overweight -- that's kind of shocking, considering that people in other places of the world are starving.

We almost ALWAYS take our lives for granted. We think we have it bad when our computer is broken down and we can't visit Whyville. Take a few minutes and watch the news. Look at what other people have to live in. Just think about it.

Realize how lucky we truly are. Perhaps we should share our wealth with others...

Use the summer to do some productive thinking, it'll get you ready for school =).

Thanks for listening...
