Heyo, this is Merchant here with my second part of Religion and Food. Today we will explore Islam, a religion with over 1 billion followers worldwide and about 6 million in the U.S.A. The word "Islam" means peace and submission. Peace means to be at peace with yourself and submission means submission to the will of God. Muslims believe in all prophets like Jesus and Moses. They also believe that only God should be worshipped, not a human being. Judaism, Christianity and Islam are closely related.
Like Jewish people, Muslims cannot eat pork. They cannot eat the meat of the animals who died before being slaughtered or carnivorous animals (because those animals eat dead animals). They can't drink blood (not a hard rule to live with!) or wine and drugs.
According to some medical experts, pork is a harmful food. Muslims believe that eating pork creates lowliness in character and destroys morals! It's been shown that people who do not eat pork or drink alcohol live longer, another reason why Muslims don't touch the stuff.
I'm sorry if this seemed kinda short to you, but these are most of the facts that you might need to know about Islam and their laws on food. Vegetarianism has a long history!
