Crab Meat Mystery Solved

An9el
Guest Writer

Hi! It's me. Who's me, you might ask. Well, if you guessed An9el, you're right! This is my first article in the Times (if it makes it, of course... *crosses fingers*). Oh, yeah, back to the point.

I'm writing this in regards to rainbow15's article (see Bacteria & Acids, Important Stuff in the Whyville Times, Thursday, July 25th, 2002 issue).

I take great pride in saying I have solved the mystery that has puzzled us all (well at least it has puzzled rainbow15 and myself). I have found out what imitation crab meat is made of!

Why, you might ask yourself, did I take the time to figure this seemingly unimportant food issue out? Well since I read her (rainbow15) article I asked myself, what really makes up that stuff? Is it healthy? Why buy imitation instead of regular? If you asked yourself the same questions (or have at least pondered this issue), then I have the answers! Read further along if you want them!

Imitation crab meat is made in a process using fish, usually Alaskan pollack. The fish are deboned, rinsed, and mixed with seasonings or flavorings and sugar. Crab meat is also added for flavor. The amount varies with each processor.

There you have it, straight from the horse's mouth, or my mouth, rather, that imitation crab meat is indeed made of fish!

Now on to our next topic: Is imitation crab meat healthy?

Yes, as a matter of fact, it is healthy. It provides you with important nutrients that are required to live a healthy day to day life (based on the famous food pyramid, and the 2,000 calorie a day diet). Also, there is little to no fat in the imitation crab meat itself (what you add it to may vary the fat content).

Our final topic: Why buy imitation crab meat instead of regular?

Well folks, there is one good enough reason for the parents out there. It's cheaper! Ask your parents, they know all (well, not all, but enough)

So, this case is solved!

Agent An9el saying buenas noches, and have a good dinner... yummy imitation crab meat, perhaps? =D
