September 11th, 2001... where were you? Were you in New York watching the towers fall? Or were you at home, like me, staring at the TV in shock, glad that you didn't live there?
I woke up on September 11th, and already it was no ordinary day. I got up early for school and realized that part of my tooth was chipped off. "Oh great," I thought, "Now I have to go to the dentist today." (Which I hate!) I went upstairs to tell my mom, thinking how awful the day was going to be. My mom was watching ABC, like every morning. But instead of seeing the usual Regis and Kelly talk show, I saw a plane crashing into the World Trade Center!
At first I thought it was just an accident, but then a second plane crashed into the second tower!
My tooth problem was immediately forgotten. I was shocked! I was glad I lived in Canada, but at the same time, I felt sorry for the victims, their families, and friends. I couldn't (and still can't) understand how someone could kill so many innocent people.
Now that it's been a little over a year, I am relieved that nothing else has happened: no other acts of terrorism in North America, at least. I am still sympathetic for the victims and their families and I wish I could stop terrorism forever. I feel a little vengeful, but I know that revenge won't solve anything. Overall, I am still disappointed that the attacks happened, but I think that it has really brought people together and taught everyone to appreciate what they have.
We can't change the past, but we can change the future. We can stop things like this from happening again. All we have to do is STOP FIGHTING. Throw away the bombs and guns. We can stop terrorism. It will take a lot of work, but in the end, it will definitely be worth it!
Remember two wrongs don't make a right, and trying to solve war with war is NOT going to work!
Well, that's all I have to say, but before I go, here is a picture of me and some other Whyvillians making a freedom chain on September 11th, 2002.
This is kiska, signing off...
