Ahoy Ahoy, Whyvillians. Fonz here, thinking about her first times on Whyville.
I've been on since last August and I have made many friends and lost many. There were all my new confusing newbie experiences, like getting my salary high and having my first Whyville boyfriend. Whyville was one of my favorite sites and I was always on whenever possible. Then, suddenly, I tried to log on Whyville one day and was stuck in a waiting room. I was thinking, "What is this!?" I tried to log back in again and again, but it kept saying Whyville was full. I was confused. After more pathetic attempts, I gave up. For months, the book marked "Whyville" remained unused in my Favorites section on the Internet browser.
Then, one day my friend Libra1010 convinced me to go back on because Whyville had snow! So I tried for a bit, and finally got on. I found tons of messages from friends as well as new places like the ice rink and forest. My curiosity aroused, I continued searching. Sadly, I discovered most of my friends were long gone. I was sad and I didn't really feel like making new friends, so once again I was inactive for about two months.
Finally, one day, no one was on my usual chat, and looking up stuff was getting very lame. I went to the browser and clicked "Whyville.com" and there I was. I typed in Fonz and my password (shhhh!) and I actually got on on my first try. I caught up with the times and sadly found that yes, all my old friends were gone. I hope someday they'll decide to return to Whyville like I have. It still is annoying when I have to wait to get in to Whyville (sometimes until the wee hours of the night!) and I have considered a Why-Pass many times, but I don't really know how long it will be until I decide to take another break from Whyville. Right now, I'm making new friends and trying to raise my salary.
So that's how Whyville has been for me. And yes, I love Whyville and will try to stay on for as long as possible. I guess you could call me an oldbie. I don't really know, no one has exactly said how long you have had to be on Whyville to be labeled "newbie" or "oldbie". I know people have been on far longer than I have, and they have to be veterans.
But I'm wandering off the topic (as usual). I've been on Whyville a year now from a friend introducing me. Whyville has been through a lot (blackouts, crashes, too many people, bad servers, Why-Passes and money problems challenging us all to keep Whyville up and running) and many people gave up on Whyville many months ago. I guess unless I buy a Why-Pass I can remain in the waiting room, hoping some people will get off. But that's wishful thinking, because some people leave their computers on overnight so they can stay on Whyville! Usually I can get on 12am on Monday to Friday and on Saturdays 2am and Sundays 1am. I'm kind of nocturnal because of it... but hey, it's summer, give me a break.
There I go again off topic. I'll end it now before I start telling you all about my summer holiday! So, basically, the conclusion of my article: I've been on Whyville for a year, and I'm hoping Whyville will be around for many years to come.

Editor's Note: Fonz wrote this article a couple months ago, and I'm sure that if she were able to, she'd add a "P.S." about how much easier it is to get onto Whyville lately! See last week's editorial for the facts, data, and blatant horn-tooting.
