Many of us know how mean people are in Whyville. We need to stop this as soon as possible. It shouldn't be hard. Many people are hurt by cruel people here and I'm sure Whyville wasn't created just for being mean and acting all snotty and selfish -- whether that's being preppy, punk, goth or something else. I caught up with a few citizens on Whyville to see what they thought. The first two are people who have seen it happen.
First, I met up with kbeargirl. Here is our conversation.
Me: Are you a newbie?
kbeargirl: I have been here before, a year or two ago, and this is my 7th day back after a year.
Me: Has anyone ever been mean to you on Whyville?
kbeargirl: No.
Me: Have you ever seen someone be mean to someone else?
kbeargirl: Yes, lots.
Me: How? Give me an example.
kbeargirl: People say, "You look funny. You shouldn't be in Whyville if you look like that."
Me: Thanks.
Then I interviewed Carolyn11. Here's what she had to say:
Me: Are you a newbie?
Carolyn11: No.
Me: Have you ever been put down?
Carolyn11: No.
Me: Have you ever seen someone being mean to someone else?
Carolyn11: Yes.
Me: Give me an example.
Carolyn11: Ok. They say, "You're a geek," and they call them bad words.
Me: Thank you, Carolyn11.
Then I got a different perspective. Nina6422 has had this experience.
Me: Are you a newbie?
nina6422: Ya, I think so, because I've had Whyville for one month.
Me: Are people mean to you, or have been in the past?
nina6422: Ya. When I go somewhere there are at least two people who are mean to me.
Me: What do they say?
nina6422: They say stuff like, "On a scale from 1 through 10 you're a 0," and "You're an ugly person."
Me: Thanks, nina6422.
I'm sure every day, millions of people are hurt or infuriated by this behavior. I feel it should be stopped immediately. I myself have been told millions of times that I'm ugly and all of that deal. So please, help save Whyville and let's make it a better place. Don't forget that Whyvillians could be very young and when you do this it might hurt them badly.
Everyone was once a newbie, and there are always newbies coming in. They seem ugly because they don't have many clams to use and they get everything from Grandma until they can afford it. SO PLEASE EVERYONE, BE KIND TO PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE NEWBIES!
