This is bonethugg reporting, I am in the waiting room writing an article that I hope gets accepted! Anyway, I just came back from my summer job, and I was pondering the question, what is the future of Whyville? Many of my friends are quitting, myself included. Well, I am coming back to make face parts once in a while, but, anyway, my friends are indeed quitting.
I've heard that Whyville used to be fun (well, it still is)... like almost everyone knew each other and did everything together. Soon the population started to skyrocket, getting more and more popular by the day.
Then hackers heard about Whyville, and they started hacking innocent citizens who thought they were going to make new friends. Also, older kids such as fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen year olds heard about Whyville. They started swearing and making fun of the other citizens. Yes, City Hall made these protection tools like 911 and vaporize, but it still hurts to be called a freak and yelled at not to talk to someone. Then people started dubbing newcomers the hurtful word 'newbie' -- they forget that there is a person behind that animated face!
Soon City Hall and City Management jumped on these people, punishing them with silencing or even banishing them! But City Hall/Management forgot one key item... these kids could still come back on different accounts! They are still being hurtful by calling names and keeping up their obnoxious behavior.
I think City Hall should let you obtain only two accounts total, so after that, you may not enter Whyville anymore!
I know many kids who are getting banished, some for no apparent reason! But new hurtful teenagers keep joining, making real newcomers or 'newbies' feel unwelcome and hurt, thinking that everyone on Whyville is this way. They even make older citizens want to quit.
I know this article sounds pitiful and unworthy, but I am still thinking... what is the future of Whyville?

Note from City Hall: It makes me really sad to hear about your troubles, bonethugg. I know the folks at City Hall love to do more to help -- can you help us? It's not as easy as it sounds. For starters, we can't limit the number of Whyville accounts you have. When you sign on, how can we tell if you have other accounts? What information can we get that we can guarantee is true? Well, there's credit cards... which kids don't have... there's driver's licenses and other legal forms of identification... all stuff that kids don't have! And even if you did have something like this, it's illegal for us to gather it, because it's not absolutely safe for you to give out that kind of info.
What can we do to encourage the kindnesses that so many citizens remember from their past? Is it just the glow of the "good ol' days", or is there really a difference? What should be done to discourage mean-spirits more, and help folks who are generous and well-meaning at heart?
Let's get back to doing things the Whyville Way. Ask questions, find the answers that lead to the next question... and do it all while you take care of newbies, oldbies, city workers and all your fellow citizens. Being a good person is just as important as being a good friend.
