Hi everyone! Aquagerl here again, hoping to get this article published. I submitted one on the same subject a little while ago, but it wasn't very good. I hope that this one turns out better.

What if one day you woke up and were blind? What if your entire world was black for the rest of your life? Now, most of us would say that this would be a bad thing and I'd have to agree with you. However, let's look at it from a different point of view.

All our lives, we are judged by our appearance. At school, I'm sure we have all noticed (at least I have) that nine times out of ten the only people that get asked out on a regular basis are the pretty girls or the hot guys. Even on Whyville, people will be insulted because someone, who for some odd reason believes he or she has the right to put others down, thinks they're ugly and feels a need to say so.

What's up with that? Hasn't anyone ever considered that it's what's on the inside that counts? What happens if you got involved with a person in a serious relationship all because of their looks and then they were in an accident and didn't look so good anymore? Then what would you have? Would you just walk out on them because they aren't pretty anymore? If you said yes, you're probably extremely selfish and never truly cared for that person at all.

Contrary to popular belief, there is more to a girl or a boy than his or her looks. You don't have to believe me now, I mean, you can find out the hard way for all I care, but sooner or later, you'll discover that I'm right. As my dad always says, "A person can be the most good-looking person in school, they can be near perfect! That is, until they open their mouths." Think about it. It'll save you a lot of trouble and it'll probably save others a lot of hurt as well.

You and I can't change the kind of society we live in. We can't change the fact that we ARE going to be judged by the way we look for the rest of our lives, we can't change the fact that the way we live is, for the most part, ignorant, narrow-minded, and just plain cruel. We can't change that; however, that doesn't mean that we have to contribute.

So, what if you suddenly were blind? What if you couldn't see what others looked like anymore? You couldn't judge them then, could you? I mean, at least when it' s all dark, we all look the same, we're all the same colour, and the only way you can possibly judge someone is by how they act and by who they really are. So I suppose that, in a sense, blindness might restore the sight, the kind that REALLY counts. Remember: love with your heart, not with your eyes.

Thanks,
aquagerl
