Newbie Treatment

'Ello, Genie2 here (of course). This article's about newbies, and how Whyville citizens can be overly cruel to them. Just because someone is new, should you shun them? No. Just because someone asks a simple question about Whyville, should you make fun of them? No.

Newbies are just people who want to join in on Whyville fun, but many so-called "citizens" of Whyville make it extremely hard for them to go out and make friends. I'm not saying all Whyvillians shun newbies, but a lot of them do. They get caught up in being popular and having lots of articles or face parts out for sale, and forget that they were once newbies too. Googles... uh... googles... well, famous Whyvillians were newbies once, too.

If you went back in time to 2000 and saw googles as a newbie, would you treat them the way you do today? It all has to do with popularity, but I won't get into popularity since my friend just wrote an article about that.

What I want to know is why it's so bad to be a newbie. You're just a person who has just started coming to Whyville. Sure, you may not know what you're doing, how to change your face, or anything about Whyville, and it seems many citizens don't want to help you at all. I'm an oldbie, but I remember being a newbie, wearing the now out of style bandanas and eyes, all I could afford, trying to get good at the games to have a high salary so people wouldn't mind talking to me or helping me out. Back then, if you had one of those lumpy potato faces and an ear or two, you just weren't someone to talk to. You might as well have been an empty spot.

Fashions, individuality, news, all of that has changed in Whyville, but newbies are still treated the same. Like empty, annoying spots. It's even considered an insult to some people to be called a newbie. I want to see newbies being treated just like the other citizens of Whyville -- naked potato faces or not, they're still citizens of Whyville and deserve to be treated fairly.

Ciao from Genie2.
