Give War a Chance?

Ybird here. =) I'm back again, and I'm talking WAR.
Ok, if you've read the title of this article, then you'll probably think I'm completely nuts. Or armed and dangerous. But before you jump to conclusions, let's clear one point up: I hate war. It is against all that I stand for, and it's a terrible waste of many innocent lives. However, that's not my point. Not today, anyway.
I've been reading all the articles which have been popping up in the Times recently about war, and been thinking. Is it just a bit too simple to say "it's pointless destruction, war has to be stopped"? If that sounds strange, I'll explain my views.
Think about it. You are George Bush, confronted with an angry nation, shaken by terrorist attacks which killed hundreds. What do you do? (I'll say it now, that I'm certainly not Bush's biggest fan, but I'm sure he never actually wanted war. Why would he?) The option of peaceful negotiation is out. There is a history behind the seemingly pointless attacks, and those who committed the crimes don't want to talk. In fact, war is probably exactly what they do want. So... what now? All those who think war is terrible (and note that that includes me), can you think of an alternative? I have to say I can't. Now back to the picture we've created. It seems that war is the only option remaining open. You go in for the offensive, and hundreds, thousands, die. And probably only a very small number, if any, of those dead are guilty.
And so here we come to a flaw in your little strategy. In my opinion, Bush could have been a lot more careful in these bombings, and concentrated them to a smaller, more accurate area. Innocent lives will almost always be taken, which is tragic, and everyone wishes it wasn't the way, but it is. What makes these deaths worse is that most people killed did not support Al Q'aida and Osama Bin Laden, and the destruction they caused in America.
So here is what I have to say: don't bombard me with hate mail saying I'm evil, because I'm NOT and I hate war. But also think about what I've said. What is your alternative? I hope one day there will be a good one....
Peace people,
