I just woke up from a horrible night's sleep. Anyone who has a snorer in the house will understand and empathize with me. Anyway, I was reading the old section on "Whyville Politics" and have some concerns, issues, and opinions that I would like to share with you and for you to think about. A while back, there was some talk on a new Whyville Government. At first, it really intrigued me. Therefore, I read all of the articles on the topic and made sure that I was up to date with all of the surrounding issues.

Although a citizen-run government does sound like a wonderful idea, you have to look at the big picture. Do you really want Whyville to be run by a group of children and/or teenagers? The same people who may have hacked you, begged you for clams, made fun of you, etc? Don't get me wrong, I am certain that there are several excellent candidates for government positions, and they do have the best interests of Whyville and its citizens at heart. However, you must put several things into consideration... For example, how would we go about this idea? Surely we couldn't just vote on it. Think of all of the problems that could arise. Not to mention the negative experiences that we have faced. The article Prom King Scam is an excellent example of this. The last thing we need in our government is a corrupt politician.

In addition, what is wrong with Whyville now? I don't see anything that we need to change. Remember that big changes cost money, and that is something that Whyville Workers do not have a vast supply of. Don't forget the new events that occurred, such as the Geo-Dig Game and the Why-Pox experience, not to mention the new game on nutrition that should be happening shortly. It is my opinion that City Workers are doing an outstanding job as is. Don't forget that they have a whole city to manage, and that includes over 300,000 people. You see the problems that our own country's governments are experiencing, and I believe that those problems could arise on Whyville, too, if we're not careful. If you really think about it, Whyville has survived very well so far without a different system of authority.

However, on the other spectrum, a new government could be a good change. You would have individuals that you would know have the same opinions and wants for Whyville as yourself. (Then again, you could have the exact opposite opinion. Just because you are close to the same age-group does not mean you will agree on the same things, does it?) Perhaps City Hall and the Whyville Staff would choose carefully whom they would like to see run or be elected for the new government. Or maybe there would be try-outs for positions, and a large group of citizens could obtain power (similar to the Y-Helpers, or a Congress). These are just some out of many possible suggestions.

If you do want something different to happen to Whyville, I suggest that you take some action. Whyville does need your help, and just bickering about the problem will not solve it. Whyville is always looking for sponsors to help with new games or activities for its citizens. More freedom would be nice, but you have to prove that you deserve it. You can start off small, by being kinder and more helpful to your fellow peers. Then think bigger -- if we free Whyville, Whyville can free us.

But do we really need to compose our own government? I thought Whyville was a place to learn, explore, and meet new people... and to get away from stress and struggles of everyday life. Maybe that's just me. I understand that everyone has their own opinions.

Here's hoping that tonight will be snore-less so that I can actually get some sleep.... Perhaps some soothing music will put me in good spirits. Best of luck to everyone out there, in everything that you do and every decision that you make.
