Ya know, in the real world today, laws are broken all the time. Many people get away with it too, unfortunately. Sneaking a candy bar from the gas station. Murder. Ok, yeah, those are in two MAJORLY separate categories of law-breaking, but, in the end, they are both wrong. Yes, wrong. Hopefully, you already knew that, though.
Well, now to my point. Law-breaking on Whyville. It's seen all the time. Cheating, lying, stealing, copying, fraud, assault. Have you ever noticed all the things that go on? There's so many ways to get around so many things on Whyville, its not even funny. Let's see, where to begin...
Well, one thing that I think is absolutely horrible is the mistreatment of citizens and/or abuse of chatting privileges. There is no reason for people to need to curse. There is a filter. Why can't people just respect it, instead of finding different spellings? I mean, now that we have the chat filter in y-mail too, I can't even write a simple sentence that doesn't have any type of swearing in it at all just because it MAY be offensive on some strange planet. It's pretty sad that Whyville had to come to this. I think we definitely NEED the filter, though -- imagine how it would be without it!
I absolutely despise when people curse and am glad for the filter in the mail. Whyville is supposed to be a SAFE place, but how can it be safe when people alter the spellings of curse words to get around the chat filter... and don't get in major trouble for it? What happened to Whyville? Why can't people just get along? =( It is depressing how people treat one another.
There's also that age thing. People lying, just so they can talk without needing permission. But really, if you think about it, newcomers to Whyville most likely won't know that you can't talk if you're under 13, right? So they would probably put their real birthday. If they are old members, creating new accounts, and they are under 13, and they lie, well, don't you think they might have gotten permission with their first account?
I saw on someone's website cheats for every single game, even pictures of the rocks for the GeoDigs. One day, I saw someone in the GeoDig, and he told me that he was using those cheats. THIS is really pathetic. How is Whyville educational if all people do is go to these sites and copy everything down! What are you getting out of this??
There's also many ways to get around Whyville's restrictions. If something gets sold out right after you buy it, all you have to do is click back to buy it again, and then you are free to get as many as you want! And the Clam Gram 5 a day rule doesn't work at all. All you have to do is click back and then send then back then send then back then send... you get my point? You can send as many as you want.
Oh, and about the dances. Do you not have to buy them anymore? I mean, most of the time if someone tells you the name of the dance they are doing, and you try it, you can do it. It just doesn't make any sense -- what's the point of even putting them up for sale?
Now, I am going to slide off subject for a bit and talk about something in an article by Sonner that I read that struck up some interest. It was about the Safety Patrol and how they should not wear their hats because it might scare people. Well, I think that that should be the POINT of the safety patrol! If they are around, then no crimes shall be committed, and isn't that a good idea? Hopefully, there would be enough members of the patrol to be around enough to keep crime down to a minimum. But when they are not around, THEN people who are NOT patrol members will use the 911 tool. It's like how when you drive down the road and you spot a police car, you WILL slow down and act like a perfect little driver that you are once you notice them. It just happens, because you do not want to be given a ticket. Personally, when I see a cop around I freak out and go REALLY slow, but anywho, this is how it should be on Whyville. Shouldn't people be a little scared of the patrol and not want to do anything bad around them?
Back to my main subject. Sadly, there are many glitches in the system (no offense) and ways to get around the rules and policies set by Whyville. Hopefully, in the future, (though some of the glitches aren't as big as other ones) these will all be removed. Until then, I cannot say that Whyville is truly a safe safe SAFE place.
Thank you and g'day.
