The day before the last day of school my teacher gave the class an assignment, to write about he best gift we ever gave or received. I almost completely blew it off thinking about all the Christmas presents I had received. CDs, Books, Movies. I came to the conclusion that all gifts were junk. So I wrote a fictional story for that paper.

Before we left my teacher read the best papers (mine not among them). One girl said that the best gift was her boyfriend because he cared for her and no mere object could do that. Another said it wasn't the gift that mattered but the intent behind it.

When I go back to think about that paper I wish I could have rewritten it, because I know what the best gift I've ever received and given is that of friendship, love, and family.
