Many individuals create some sort of New Year's Resolution to prepare for the upcoming year. To try to better themselves, obtain determination and self-discipline, and to accomplish something that they lacked in the previous years.
Whyville in itself has a unique atmosphere, exceptional with its activities and always stirring up the curiosity in us citizens. With the good always comes the bad, but we have the capacity to alter these bad aspects of our community and change them into things that are more positive. However, what do Whyville and composing your own resolutions have in common, you may ask me?
Perhaps some things on Whyville bother you, although you enjoy the site and spend as much time on it as humanly possible. The behavior between individuals has started to bother me enormously, so as I write this, I anticipate inaugurating Whyville's first New Year's Resolution. One, I hope, that everyone will aspire to follow.
If you are one who takes part in the chats at the Playground, Sportsplatz, Pool Party, etc. you might have noticed a change in behavior between Whyvillians. The first thing I've observed is a lack of respect towards one another. Fights erupt constantly because people have no consideration of other's feelings, opinions, and beliefs. That said, many individuals have also become greedy ?? they're begging for face parts or clams when they already have acquired a reasonable salary and could easily save their own money to afford the things they want. In addition, this growth in longing for things among the well-off of Whyville actually takes away from those who have very little and desperately need assistance or a friend to help him or her.
I realize that you have heard about this topic numerous times, and perhaps it is getting tedious. However, I believe that it is an issue that needs to be addressed. New citizens are not given the respect that they deserve. I do not necessarily believe that this is because they have few clams, for you do not know how many clams a person may have. Mostly, the segregation is based upon appearance. Citizens who have been on Whyville for a long, long while are mistaken for newbies because they may not look like others. They choose to be unique, and diversity seems to be shunned by certain individuals.
This may sound harsh, but get a life! If the only thing you can do is be cruel to someone because his or her animated creature looks different than yours, you need to find something else to do with your time. Belittling someone based upon physical appearance makes you foolish, in my opinion.
Now, on a lighter note, I hope that Whyvillians try this year to be kinder to each other. This is something that City Workers, Y-Helpers, or the Safety Patrol team cannot fix. Our attitudes cannot be altered with force. We need to want and strive to work hard to be more appropriate to others. That includes everybody, even the people who annoy your brains out!
Please keep this article in mind the next time you encounter someone who's begging for clams or who looks a little different from the rest of us. If you have nothing to give, politely tell them that you do not. Ask them if they would like some fashion or games advice, clams for some new clothes, whatever! Kindness can sure go a long way, and it just takes a few to establish a new trend.
Here's hoping that Whyville's 2003 Resolution will be a success!
