What Does Whyville Mean?

Well, I was quite bored one snowy day, and was about to go on Whyville. Whyville, I said to myself, "What does Whyville mean?" Time to get out my handy dandy dictionary!

First I looked up why. It means the reason, cause, or purpose for which. Okay, so in normal language it basically means "the reason".

Than I looked up ville: the quality or condition. Condition means way of living. An example would be, "funville is a place where the main way of living is to have fun."

So basically, our city is "the reason way of living". Read that line again and think about it. I interpreted this as: Whyville is a place where we are on a never-ending quest to find the answer. But is this true?

Now, I don't know about you, but when I'm at the Pool Party, I don't hear people talking about how dinosaurs were killed or why we like or dislike going to war. I hear people talking about friendships, school, their hair, whatever. And that's perfectly okay. That is why, in my opinion, we have the Times.

Although we have games where we learn a lot in Whyville, the places where we talk do not often have people talking about the reason of things. The Times is different. The Times people are talking. And in the Times, we talk about reasons. Why did this happen? Who's been doing what? In the Times, many writers have a passion to know the answer.

So, if you're looking for answers, you've come to the right place: the Whyville Times.

Gotta fly,
Jill20
