Hey everyone! Everywhere I go in Whyville, someone is always talking about people being ugly (especially newbies) so, I interviewed some Whyvillians about the meaning of ugly. First I interviewed Shellbert:
Me: What do you think ugly is?
Shellbert: I dunno if there's really an ugly. Whyville is just a game and there are so many different looks.
Me: Do you think ugly is a personality trait, physical trait, or both?
Shellbert: It can be both. It's fun to see if your looks please you and the people around you, plus you can see personality in different outfits.
Me: Do you see a lot of "ugly" people in Whyville?
Shellbert: Some people are more ugly with personality, but I have seen people who could be considered ugly...
Next I interviewed Pmaster. Here are his answers to the same questions:
Question #1: Oh, ah, I think it is someone's looks.
Question #2: Both.
Question #3: No.
Then, I interviewed JESSlCA. Here are her answers to the questions:
Question #1: Not hot.
Question #2: Both.
Question #3: How can cartoons be ugly?
Goes to show ugly isn't all what you see outside a person! A lot of it is inside.
I'd hoped to end my article with the poem, "What Ugly Is", by Canadian poet Robert Priest, but the Times can't publish copyrighted material like that. So I suggest you all go to the bookstore or library and look it up. It's very powerful.
