The purpose of Whyville lost? Its true meaning destroyed? Eulogy here, with another article for the Times, this one about none other than the great town of Whyville. Today I write to you not only as a Times guest writer, but as a citizen. Whyville is a science/educational website for children and adults to hang around and have a good time. But some people have altered Whyville's perception and dismantled its purpose.
Citizens have brought many things to Whyville, some good and some not so good. An example of this is dating. I myself do not this, as I don't believe it is safe at all. You don't know who you are dating other than by an animated character.
Another example of these not-so good gifts from citizens to Whyville is when City Hall decided to let citizens design face parts. I have nothing against designers. I think designing is cool, but some people take it way way way too seriously. They do this by designing realistic clothes and, well, making it all look so real. Whyville should be a place to be different, not look the same.
There have been a lot of changes in Whyville, and I haven't been around for much of them, but for what I do know, and what I've learned from the Times' archives, much of Whyville has changed completely. I challenge you: look goofy, funny, strange, unique... wear anything but everyday clothes. Explore your artistic ability, discover your own uniqueness.
I used to be able to go on Whyville at school because it was educational, but now I can't because the administration believes it falls under the 'filter', because of what people have done to it.
Eulogy, taking a walk down memory lane...
