Turn it Up or Turn it Off?

Everybody Tells Me Everything
by Ogden Nash

I find it very difficult to enthuse
Over the current news.
Just when you think that at least the outlook is so black that it can grow no blacker, it worsens,
And that is why I do not like the news, because there has never been an era when so many things were going so right for so many of the wrong persons

Good way to start out an article, hey? Some poetry written by a famous poet (well, I think he's famous. You have to have somewhat of an appreciation of poetry to know him.) This poem was the perfect way to start out my article.

First of all, let's talk about one of our very dedicated Whyville public servants, MediaMaven... erg... wiz... MediaWiz. Sorry, flashback there! Take a look at what he recommends that you watch each week. Some documentary about something that can actually be really cool. That said, I think that the MediaWiz should recommend that we watch the news every night for one week.

Let's look at my reasoning before you add your opinion. Many people will say that the news will upset younger children and that others can't handle the news because it's so violent now. It causes nightmares and so on and so forth.

Well, my teacher is making us either watch the news for three weeks or cut out newspaper clippings. Many of my peers' parents are saying that their children can't because they don't want their children exposed to this stuff. Understandable, right? In my opinion, wrong!

Sure the stuff on the news is horrible, but it's also REALITY!!! If we don't see it, we can just ignore it, right? What if the world goes to war? It's okay to ignore, so long as we don't see it? That's not right!

George Bush, Jr. is the President of the United States of America. Let's face it, the U.S. is the most powerful country in the world, and there's nothing wrong with that, unless the person elected *fails* to represent the desires of every American. And the majority of Americans do not want war. (FYI, I saw that on the CTV news... don't remember the specific numbers....)

It's important to know what's going on out there because that's the only way you can learn how to make a difference.

Also, I just thought I'd mention that even before I got this assignment in school, I watched the news. You'd be surprised at what you learn in thirty minutes...

For now, this is a very sleepy Giggler01, crawling into bed. Good night.
