Hello, Whyville. Today I would like to teach you about something that happens in my school and is growing to more and more schools across the country. What, you ask? Block scheduling. This may not sound interesting to you, but I was shocked to hear that not all schools did it.
Some students have the same classes every time, every day. Not me! The only classes I have at the same time every day are gym and Spanish, but that's beside the point. Besides those two classes, I only have three classes a day.
First, let me give you an example. Let's say my classes are Social Studies, Science, Algebra, Language Arts, and Music. My blocks might be:
- Social Studies -- Block One
- Science -- Block Two
- Algebra -- Block Three
- Lang. Arts -- Block Four
- Music -- Block Five
So, on Monday I will have blocks 1, 2, and 3. Block 2 will have forty-five minutes before lunch, and thirty minutes after. In other words, a "split block". On Tuesday, I have 4, 5, and 1. Block five will be my split block. Wednesday is 2, 3, and 4. Thursday is 5, 1, and 2. And Friday is 3, 4, 5.
At first, I thought this was confusing. But you catch on really quick! Plus, it makes the day more interesting if you don't always have the same classes at the same time. I am very grateful my school has caught onto this trend. Maybe you can show your teachers this article and your school can do it too!
Hope I helped,
