Howdy, it's googles once more. Here I am, with another book in hand. This one's called Rule of the Bone, and wow, I feel like I should be on a teenage version of "Reading Rainbow"(tm) or something. But on to the book!
The first word that came to my mind once I finished this book was, "Weird." No, maybe
"Crazy." Something along those lines. I would ONLY recommend this book to someone who is not easily offended by foul language or adult content, so I don't even know if I should be recommending it on Whyville, but overall it IS a good book... yet strange.
It's a coming-of-age story about a 14-year-old boy named... well, I can't even remember his real name, because sometime during the story he gets the nickname "Bone" because of a tattoo he gets on his arm. The story starts out with Bone running away from his mom and stepdad's home to live with his 16-year-old friend named Russ.
I tried explaining this book to some of my friends, but I ended up telling them the whole
story, so I'm going to strive to be very brief in the summary. He gets into a lot of weird situations and meets some VERY strange people on his way through life. I enjoyed this book, even though it WAS weird, and it reminds me a lot of the book Catcher in the Rye. I think it's better than Catcher in the Rye, though that's beside the point.
My main purpose in doing these little book reviews is just to let you guys know about some good books that actually my English teacher recommended to ME. So, there you have it, Rule of the Bone.
Maybe I should have a rating system. Yes, this one might be rated R. If you think your parents would NOT like you to be reading books with adult content and bad language, then maybe you should stick to Harry Potter-style books (which I also like, so I'm not
putting it down or anything). But if you are over 17, which I suspect some Whyvillians are, then I would definitely recommend this book to you.
