I recently read Jill20???s article on experimenting with your hair, and found it rather interesting. She explained that washing your hair every few days was better than washing it daily. I thought about this for a moment, and decided that it would not be easy to go a day or two without lathering up your head with some delicious fragrance shampoo.

If you are like me, then you wash your hair every day. Once you put other hair products on your hair like gel and hairspray, and leave it in for a period of time without washing, it gets extremely irritating on your scalp. Not to mention greasy if you leave them in and don???t wash your hair. Therefore, I decided to do some experimenting of my own.

I wanted to find some research that supported the *other* side of the argument, explaining that it is beneficial to wash your hair daily, and of course, I found some information to support my theory.

The actual purpose of washing your hair is so you can remove the buildup of dirt, oil produced by your skin glands, dead skin cells, and other substances you put in your hair (like gel, hairspray, etc. of which I mentioned earlier). However, the actual number of times you wash your hair each week depends on the type of hair that you have. For example, if you have dry hair, then it is recommended that you wash your hair a few times a week. On the other hand, people with oily hair are recommended to wash their hair everyday or every other day.

Therefore, that leads me to the reason why some people should wash their hair more times than others. Well, this now persuades me to talk about the type of shampoos and what is inside each bottle. Most shampoos on the market contain water, foaming agents, fragrances (these are usually added to mask odors or other ingredients) and various amounts of detergents. If you have oily hair, then your shampoo is probably designed to embody more detergents than shampoos for those with non-oily hair. This is because detergents can make hair less manageable and cause it to lose its body and volume.

I have heard from various sources that it is beneficial if you alternate shampoos that you use. Don???t stick to the same shampoo every time you wash. Hair specialists recommend that you use one type of shampoo once or twice a week and another type once or twice a week. It is fundamental that you also change the brands of your shampoo every few months in order to keep your hair both shiny and full of life.

In addition, did you know that diet plays a vital role in hair care? Try to pay careful attention to what you eat and incorporate a healthy and balanced diet to ensure beautiful hair. What a good way to avoid a very ???hairy??? situation!

Did you know that the average person usually loses 50 to 100 stands of hair each day? The average rate of growth of your hair is about half an inch a month. Each strand of hair grows for two to six years and rests (I guess hair gets tired just like us). At any time, about 85 percent of your hair is growing and the other 15 percent is resting. Finally, after its rest period, the hair falls out and a new one starts to grow. Ever year, North Americans spend millions of dollars on hair products to spike, colour, curl, and restore damaged hair. Talk about caring for your hair!

Although Jill20???s experiment on washing your hair every few days could be healthy for someone with one type of hair and habits, it is not recommended for someone with other hair types. Although your hair is just dead skin cells, as you have seen, they can get pretty complicated.
