Dear Wildfire9 and other seekers of Canadian knowledge,
I do not blame you for having a lack of knowledge about Canada???s culture. It is true that we are the huge chunk of land from the North, but the world doesn???t know too much about Canada. I suppose we stay silent. When you explain that Canada knows a lot about the United States, that assumption is correct.
The truth of the matter is that the United States seems to be at the center of world interest right now. One cannot watch news lately without hearing some sort of information on the United States and the war on terrorism. Perhaps it is because America has always been first in creating innovations and expanding their knowledge on technology, while the rest has just followed. Canada has always been left behind.
Don???t get me wrong, Canada is only a newly developed country. It was several years ago when Canada celebrated its 100th Birthday. Before then, Britain governed Canada. We pay tribute to the Queen, much like countries like Australia and New Zealand do. However, the United States and Canada not only share a border or two, but we are similar in culture and lifestyle.
September 11, 2001 brought much unwanted attention on the United States, and right now the focus still lingers there. With the terrorist attacks to the newly developing War on Terrorism, to even the classes of American History in Canada, it is ensured that you will learn something new about the United States in Canada.
It is good that Times readers have the initiative to learn more about us, and truthfully, there is much to learn. America does depend on Canada for many things, and some may argue that they are taken for granted. No hostility, however! Despite the differences in knowledge of each other, Canada and the United States have learned to get along and work together.
Don???t you think that is what true friendship is about? After all, we are both part of North America, which together, provide the rest of the World with many of their essentials.
Just a comment on the side, but have you noticed that Giggler and Katrock???s article is titled "Finding Sasketchewan in my Y-mail"? An innocent mistake -- it is actually spelt Saskatchewan (and I thought that Whyville made a trip to Regina, Saskatchewan last spring -- oh, well).

I am Canadian. I speak English and French, both of Canada's official languages. I live in one of three prairie provinces, but there are also seven other provinces and three other territories. The Prime Minister is Jean Chretien. Quebec is Canada's largest province. And you can see Toronto, Canada's largest city, from space. Sorry Wildfire9, but I wanted to fill you in.
The U.S. is the most powerful country in the world, which makes it kind of hard to ignore. And Canada usually has to do what the U.S. does. I have a confession to make about my country. We may be big, land-wise, but our population is only about 30 million (there's more people suffering from AIDS and HIV then there are people in Canada).
If the U.S. goes to war, Canada will be right there with them (and if we decide not to, I imagine the U.S will come and drag our soldiers to war, and our soldiers will scream "Bring us our beaver! We need our beaver!" Just kidding!). A lot of the decisions that Canadians make have a lot to do with choices made by the U.S. government.
I was also a little upset when Wildfire made comments about having to study small countries in Africa. We need to know about as many countries as we can! It's a lack of communication and understanding that is causing a lot of global problems! Appreciate everything and everyone!
