Hi Whyvillians. smileNOW here. I have a very interesting
question for you,
but it's mainly for the Times Editor and others behind the Times. I was
going through the archives today (February 28, 2003), you know, just to look
at all the great Times Writers, and what they were before they became
great. I was also doing this to read their articles, and see their different looks and stuff. But
I kept noticing that up to a certain point with each of the people I looked
up (Giggler01, Tike, Quisp, shelly1, LilBeaut, etc.), their pictures were the
same as they are right now. You know, the new system where it shows the
writer the day of the article? Well, up to a certain point that doesn't
happen!
I dug around in the archives and I finally came to an issue where I
could pinpoint exactly where showing the pictures of the writer stops and
starts. In the February 28, 2002 issue, all the pictures shown are pictures
of right now. But in the March 14, 2002 issue, the pictures are of the day of
the article.
Why is this? Are the files of those pictures lost? Did
something happen to Whyville between those two issues? What's up? Just a
question. Oh by the way times editor, despite the kind of unorganized look
of the times, I really LOVE the archives section, and all the new tools
like the pictures that are of the day of the article.
Thanks so much! Bye now!

Editor's Note: A great point, smileNOW! The system where author's faces are saved the day the
article is published only began a few weeks ago, as you point out. What you're seeing is how far back our
archives of your face changes go -- just about a year. Between then and now, City Hall knows every time
you've ever changed your face! Of course, she doesn't actually *know* it consciously. It's all saved on
a computer somewhere, off on the island of Whyville....
