Bouncing in for a mid-morning chat, it's Giggler01. And yes, I do realize that I
should be out food hunting, but my brain is fried. Ugh. Everything is talking about
food characteristics. Fried. Strained. My brain is tired!! But I'm still finding
it in me to notice things and ask questions. Isn't that odd?
You've probably noticed that with many recent changes in Whyville, you are now
able to see everyone's whisperings. Well, that's not technically true. You can see who is
whispering to who, but not what they're saying. Your screen may now
constantly be filled with purple letters informing you of every whisperer.
You were also given the choice to see these whisperings or
not. I needed to think about it for a while, but I decided there might be some
advantages to seeing people's whisperings. It was all good until I started to do
some thinking, and wondered, what would happen now if I decided, "Hey, I don't
want to see everyone's whisperings!" Well, where could I change that? Anyone?
Help me out? Editor's Note: You'll find it in the info & preferences link in the bus menu
("Change Password & Email").
And even if the previous question goes unanswered, there's another thing that has been nagging at me.
Whyville Square. In the past, a "No Whispering" policy was instated in Whyville Square. This was
to help newbies get to know everyone. It was put in place mostly because of the article "Quiet
Citizens", written by Vanilla. This policy no longer stands! I feel that, now more then ever, that
policy is vital to newbies.
I decided to ask a few citizens how they felt. First off, I found slbeauty
hanging around Whyville Square. (And you'll never guess, she was food hunting!)
Me: Did you know that you weren't allowed to whisper in Whyville Square? This
was taken away.
Slbeauty: No, I didn't know that.
Me: It was to help people to get to know newbies.
Slbeauty: As small as this area is, that would make sense.
Me: Well, do you think it should be put back in place?
Slbeauty: Sure, why not?
Later, I caught up with a good friend of mine, TIKE. Here's what he had to say:
Me: You know about the "no whispering" policy in Whyville Square, right?
TIKE: Yes, I do. It has been abolished.
Me: Exactly! How do you feel about that?
TIKE: Well, the actual sign was replaced with one advertising the store. I
believe that the whisper policy *was* a good idea. It allowed citizens who had
the inability to chat, or new citizens, to engross themselves in conversations, and
feel like they were apart of Whyville.
Me: I think it was also good to ensure that people talked to newbies in the
Square, too. Would you like to see the policy re-established?
TIKE: Yes, I would. I think it was an excellent idea when it was first created.
Me: Do you think that a policy like this should be set up in a different room,
say, perhaps the beach, where newbies and oldies tend to be in same room, but don't talk to each other
much?
TIKE: Well, at one point, the Whyville Square was a very popular hang-out. However, I
believe that moving the non-whispering zone to another location would be a good idea -- especially one as
populated as the beach, playground, etc. However... you might notice a decrease in the number of citizens
who visit each chat-room after the no-whispering policy is in effect. That might be a good experiment to
try! To see how much citizens value their *whispering* tool.
Me: Okay, thanks!
I totally agree with TIKE. Try the policy in a more populated chat room and see
what happens. Vanilla would be proud -- well, not if she saw all her hard work go
down the drain!
Anywho, my sister needs feeding! Ta Ta For Now!
