It's amazing how we take things in the world and make
them mean exactly what we want. A good example of this is "shock and awe". What
is "awe"?
In the Bible, it describes the feelings we get when we are amazed, the
experience of a miracle. Now, look at how it's used the the military. Since when is
destroying an entire city, country or empire a miracle?
They say that to have peace, you must have war. That makes absolutely no sense.
Sure, if we destroy everything, we can start again, and make it exactly the way
we want. But how realistic is that, and how long can it last? We try only to eliminate the government, for
a better world, but who will suffer as a direct result of our actions, of our decisions?
It's amazing how we want a peaceful world, and the extent we are willing to go
to in order to achieve this. We want one global community and we will eliminate
the people who prevent us from doing that. Yet, it is not the soldiers fighting
in the Middle East that embody this dream. The people who strive for a global
community are the hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of people who walk
the streets all over the world, asking not for war, but instead for peace.
Three religions that are in the news so much now, when the news is only about
war, are the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim faiths. These three groups share the
same scripture that says that the top commandments are to love and worship
your god and to love your neighbour. Why is it, then, that groups that hold
these religions so close to heart are at war? Do we just get to pick and chose
which parts of the religion we will follow?
High-level officials in the United States government (including the President) and the Coalition have been
quoted as saying that they are fighting for God. But Saddam Hussein's son has been quoted as well, asking
for the Lord's protection, for his guidance and support -- well, something along those
lines. If both sides believe in God, and want to do what is best for him, why are they fighting?
Something I can't understand is why the U.S. would choose to aggravate Hussein if
they know he has these weapons. Why give him a reason to lauch anthrax or
mustard gas? The pendulum swings both ways, but some people don't seem to
realise that.
Another thing I can't seem to undertand or grasp is the news coverage of this war. Why are we obssessed
with seeing the bombings, time and time again. We should note that the only thing that was on Wednesday
night, other then war coverage, was "Survivor" on CBS. It's amazing, the way our world works,
isn't it? And why do we need this "frontline coverage"? Have we just been exposed to so much
gruesome television that none of this phases this? Or are we still in shock? Or do we revel in the
destruction of so much humanity?
It seems that every day I come up with so many more questions, but never find any
answers. That tells me that we are going about this the wrong way. Ask yourself,
where do you stand, and for what?
