Hey everyone.
It's Zoey100 here. Everyone is talking about the war with Iraq and I thought I'd
put in a little of my perspective of what it's like to be Arab.
I am 50% Arabic. My mother is 100%. She was born in Baghdad. You know the U.S. just
bombed there? I'm glad my mom is here with me. I asked her what it was like to
live there. She only lived there for about 6 years, so the bombings didn't really affect her.
Wouldn't you think this would affect me, though? I mean, I go to a public school
and most people know I'm 50% Arabic and all about my mom being born in Iraq.
Well, it doesn't really bother me. Sometimes my feelings are a little hurt, but those
comments I hear aren't aimed directly at me. Things like "We should have Iraqi missile bombs
that detect Iraqis." I just think, well, you want the bomb to attack me?? But I
do think that they mean the bad individuals in Iraq and just let it slide.
If any of you are Arabic or have Iraqi blood, don't be ashamed. This war is NOT
your fault. People shouldn't harass you and tell you it is, because it's not.
I thought I would just let you all know that. And for those of you that may be
the harassers, please stop. You aren't helping anyone. Thank you.
Adios,
Zoey100
