I'M BAAACK! After a looong break from Whyville, I have decided to come back for a while. So much has changed! But that's a little off-topic for now.

As you definitely know, the U.S. is at war with Iraq. Right now, President Bush is making decisions about whether to continue, how to execute the war, etc. He knows that the world is watching and based on his decisions, making judgments about America.

Most of the world is learning about the developments in the war by watching TV. And I've noticed that each TV channel takes a certain position on the war and tries to influence it's viewers. The best example of this would be MTV. MTV is, very obviously, anti-war. Recently, MTV aired a commercial with a pastor from the Methodist church saying how he is ashamed that Bush is a Methodist. The pastor on the commercial says that no Methodist would ever go forward with this war. MTV has also taken steps to show America the more disgusting aspects of war, like the poverty-stricken Iraqis. MTV influences many teens and kids, which are its main viewing age groups. MTV is telling us to be anti-war.

The mainstream news channels are mainly viewed by adults. The news channels aren't so obvious, but most are pro-war. I've been watching CNN for a while now, almost every day for some amount of time, and I have never seen anything positive about an anti-war protest. The coverage is always about how many people got arrested and how all the protestors were just troublemakers. The news channels are always very supportive of the president and the troops, which is good right now, I guess. They need as much support as they can get!

No doubt, Iraqi TV is having an influence on its citizens. I think they only get Arab networks over there right now, but I'm not sure. I've heard that one of the networks they get over there, Al-Jazeera, is pro-Iraq (duh) and is showing Saddam in interviews as honorable. Al-Jazeera is showing the bombings and the real damage on the ground, while American TV is only showing the bombings from the air. American television is showing the war from the air, making it seem as if there are no casualties. Al-Jazeera reportedly showed dead people with their heads blown off. Definitely not something an American network would show! Why?

TV not only informs, it persuades.

Anyway, now that I think I've proved THAT point, I decided to ask some friends what they think about the war. I'll only include one conversation here, with my friends, NewAngel and 3shamrock.

SamGirl21: What do you guys think of the war?
NewAngel: Are you kidding me? I've been telling you for days now, the war's a joke.
3shamrock: Yeah, this war has no point.
SamGirl21: I actually think it's the ONLY way of kidding rid of Saddam.
3shamrock: He has tons of followers, though! How are you gonna get rid of all of them?
SamGirl21: It's worth a shot....
3shamrock: Maybe, but this war is killing many innocent people. All in a lame effort to get a guy that's never gonna be found, just like Osama.
SamGirl21: They might....
NewAngel: Yeah, well, it isn't going to happen.
SamGirl21: Umm... but we need to give support to the troops.
3shamrock: You're right. But I can support the troops without supporting the war. Simple as that!

I am definitely outnumbered on this one! Well, whatever your opinion, share it with us!

Signing off, but not for too long...
