I believe I'm probably best known around this town for my original
play, "Love's Deception". The play started in July 2001 in the City Hall
Auditorium. It was only a month after I had joined Whyville and I was looking
for clams, like any newbie. I was in the auditorium one day, sitting around for
another boring old beauty pageant, when the whole idea came to me. I should
start a play! I asked everyone in the auditorium at that time if they wanted to
be in the play. I got some answers, but no serious actors. Later, I asked my best
friend, Merchant, to be in it. Then I invited my other best friends to be in it:
3shamrock, Magick, NewAngel and cotaeo. This would be the cast that I needed to
put on the play.
Rehearsals were on Mondays and Wednesdays, with shows on Saturdays. The
original play was about a girl who was good (NewAngel) and her older sister who
was a rebel (Merchant) who loved her boyfriend (Magick) who just encouraged the
older sister to do bad things and was bringing her down. The younger sister
tries to help her older sister out and gets the mother (3shamrock) and father (cotaeo)
involved. Still, the older sister refuses. One days, the older sister goes
motorin' with her boyfriend. The ride ends in a horrible accident. No one dies,
although both are critically injured. Anyway, the original ending was that the
older sister becomes a good kid and loses the boyfriend, but this ending is no
longer! The new ending is far better.
Anyway, the first show was on a Saturday in June at 8 at night. A gathering of
six people were there to watch. The cast didn't know their lines too well and
the play ended early because the audience was throwing pies at us. Apparently,
the show was at the same time as some major beauty pageant. We didn't quit,
though. Everyone just worked super hard for the next show, which would be the
next Saturday at 8, again. This time we got a better showing of people.
Eventually, we started charging for tickets. 5 clams a ticket, as it still is.
On an average week that summer, each cast member made 10 to 35 clams, as the
crowds just kept getting bigger and bigger.
The show continued through all of the summer of 2001. We got a new cast member
towards the end of August. BK4U played the older sister's friend, who was also a
rebel.
I remember when our main problem was finding good costumes. Akbar's Face Mall
wasn't a mall back then, so there were no costume shops. The "rebels" wore black
hair and the gothic eyeliner that was really big back then. The "good kids" wore
just regular clothes.
I became such good friends with the original cast! We worked together every week
for a long amount of time, so we knew each other really well. Most of the
original cast are still really close.
Before we knew it, it was the end of the summer. NewAngel and BK4U quit the play
because of school. The rest of us were sad. Now we had to face the trouble of
getting two talented new people to play their roles. The search took several
weeks, so we called off the play for those weeks. Eventually, we found two new actors. One
never showed up for the Saturday show. The other left early. The play seemed
cursed for the next few months. The popularity that we had gained in the
summer... well, it just wasn't there anymore! Eventually, I just told the cast
that we would try again next year. I hoped that by then NewAngel and BK4U would
be back.
Summer of 2002 came so quickly! I was surprised when I found a y-mail from
Magick in my y-mail box. He asked if the play was happening this summer like I
said it would. I said that I would make sure it did. To my surprise, the entire
original cast was back!
We had some great shows last summer. Our fan following was like a cult. Most of the fans came every week. We always added some new lines to keep it exciting, but the basic plot stayed the same.
The play is still showing every Saturday night at 8 in the auditorium.
Rehearsals are on Wednesdays. The cast as of now is: NewAngel, Magick,
3shamrock, Flirt11 and me. 3shamrock is now the younger sis. Magick is now the
stern father. NewAngel's the rebel sis, and Flirt11 is her rebel friend. I play
the mother. You'll have to come to the play to see how it all goes now! Y-mail me
for ticket info.
A typical Saturday night is very hectic for our cast and crew. We meet in the
auditorium at around 7, and I check that everyone is in costume and ready for
the night. I check my ticket list and make sure the crowd is all paying
customers. The show is about twenty minutes long, and then the cast, crew and
sometimes audience members head to the disco for an after-party. The show is a LOT
of work; we need some relaxation!
Here's an exclusive interview with 3shamrock, who plays the younger sis:
SamGirl21: What's your favorite thing about being in "Love's Deception"?
3shamrock: The money! Haha, no, I just love to act. It's my hobby in real life.
SamGirl21: Can you relate to your character, the younger sis?
3shamrock: Yeah, because I'm the younger sis in real life! And I'm not really
that rebellious, so yeah, the role fits me.
SamGirl21: Do you ever get nervous before a show?
3shamrock: Um, no. It's on the computer, why would I be nervous?
SamGirl21: Nice point. Tell everyone about your costume.
3shamrock: Well, I don't have much of costume, since I don't get to do the whole
"rebel" look thing. I just wear my blonde hair, a white tee, a gold necklace and
my usual eyes and stuff. Sometimes I like to wear a halo!
So there you have it: a look at one of Whyville's longest running and, dare I
say, most successful plays. I, as the director, am very proud. I just want to
say a big thank-you to the cast, old and new. Remember, if you have any
questions or want a ticket, y-mail me.
