Hey, fellow Whyvillians! Krista12 here. Today I'm writing about the book that MediaWiz recommended and was the topic of Mediahour on April 9th. This Newberry award winning book is called, The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo. She is also the author of the Newberry winner, Because of Winn-Dixie.

The Tiger Rising is about a twelve-year-old boy named Rob Horton. Rob found a caged tiger in the woods behind the hotel, where he lives with his father. Rob then meets a girl named Sistine Bailey and they become good friends. Rob soon gets suspended from school, and sees Sistine when she delivers him his homework every day. The two start scheming up ways to help the tiger escape.

I have searched a lot about the book to write this article and have come across several reviews. Here are two of them. One by Publisher's Weekly and the other by Children's Literature.

"DiCamillo's second novel may not be as humorous as her debut, Because of Winn-Dixie, but it is just as carefully structured, and her ear is just as finely tuned to her characters. DiCamillo demonstrates her versatility by treating themes similar to those of her first novel with a completely different approach. Readers will eagerly anticipate her next work."
    ~ Publisher's Weekly

"DiCamillo has a talent for getting inside the heads of lonely children and figuring out exactly where their pain is. Artfully executed, this short novel is a treat for the heart and soul."
    ~ Children's Literature

Well, I hope I saw you at MediaHour on April 9th, discussing this book! Don't forget to read it! It's a great book! See you around...
