Hello Whyville! Midget101 here -- I wanted to talk about a
serious issue that is affecting the U.S. and many other countries around the
world. It is the downloading of music off the internet.
Many, probably almost all internet users download music off of Kazaa, Morpheus, Gnutella or
other places. I do, too! Well, the big issue is whether it is (or should be) illegal or
not. Many believe that there is nothing wrong with it, including me, but you have
to remember that this music is copyrighted -- to me, this means that in order to download it
off the internet you should get permission from the artist that created it.
Many musicians believe that it is very wrong to download, but others see no
problem in it! Artists like Nelly, Britney Spears, mandy Moore and many others say
it is very wrong. They argue that it cuts into money they make from their
CDs. But I'm going to argue that when I buy CDs, it cuts into my allowance that I
get from my parents!
Now, I'm just a kid and have no source of income, so I see absolutely no problem
in downloading music because it doesn't cost me any money, which is a good thing
seeing as I only get $7 a week in spending cash! (YIKES! You're telling me!)
Well, I printed so much information out off the internet on this subject,
you wouldn't believe it! I'm gonna go sort through all of those papers. I'll
be back soon with another article on this issue, once I get all my info organized! Keep
a look out for the next article by me on this topic.

P.S. If anyone is interested in doing their own research on this, go to
www.Musicunited.org. I got most of my
information there!
Editor's Note: Is this a good argument, though?
Paying for my rent cuts into my income, too! Then why should I have to pay for a meal
at McDonald's, pay for gas for my car, etc? I have to eat, I have to drive my car...
but just because it may cost me money doesn't mean I have a right to simply take
something. This doesn't mean downloading is necessarily wrong
(though it might be!), just that I think your logic is faulty here.
