Popcicle here -- I have read lots of articles on vegetarians and
decided to try it myself.
I've always loved animals and never really liked eating meat, but I did it because
my parents thought it was right. My family is BIG on meat products.
After I gave up eating meat for one week, I felt happier and I am continuing to
support sites and organizations that want to ban slaughterhouses and animal
cruelty.
I am one person out of many who won't sit and eat there salad quietly -- no, I
won't! I want to let people know some things that I thought of to help me get
off meat.
#1: I can't imagine eating my pets, so why should I eat all those
other helpless animals out there? Not enough people stand up for the animals. And,
like in the article " Vegans and Vegetarians", remember, we are eating something that is
DEAD!
And whose purpose in life is to be raised to be killed? I certainly wouldn't
like to live like that.
#2: I feel healthier not eating meat. And hey, they have different foods
like non-chicken chicken made with tofu stuff. But with vegetarians, you have to
eat foods with high protein to maintain your protein balance or you can get sick
or even die. This is especially important for kids and teens, because
having enough protein affects how we grow.
At fast food restaurants you can't order a hamburger if you're a vegetarian.
Chances are, though, that there can be veggie-burgers there. But you can still chow down
on fries and salads and stuff like that.
#3: And my last little thing that I thought of to help me get off meat: it's
healthier! Yes, for most vegetarians, less fattening foods get into your diet and chances are
you'll never have a weight problem. Now, I'm not saying everyone has to drop
their diet and become a vegetarian to lose weight. If you're hungry, I think you
should eat until you're
full and eat exactly what comes to mind. That will help you, believe me or not,
lose weight, or help so you don't GAIN weight.
At school will be hardest for me to avoid meat products. See, my cafeteria
serves lots of meat in all the main choices, like pizza and chicken and
cheeseburgers, etc. I usually take what is served and only eat the stuff that's
NOT meat. It works in a way. Or I can take a salad and pick
out the pieces of ham and throw them out. That works also. But my school's
cafeteria serves food high in meat -- it even grinds meat up to put in the salad, which makes it hard for me to avoid. No one is a vegetarian at my school, that I
know of.
If you want to see if being a vegetarian is right for you, change your diet for
a week and at the end see if you feel happier, or that if you feel you can't
give up meat.
