Here's what I think. Everywhere you look, people are telling you what to do and how to do it. It's said that teenagers want independence, etc. and that's why they disobey their parents. Instead of doing what their parents tell them, they do what is in the latest issues of Cleo or on the most popular television show! Ok, so maybe you have found a way of living or a style of dressing or something like that that suits you and that you feel comfortable in. Well then, I say good for you!!!

I used to live in a really small town; then I moved to a bigger city, with lots of shops and about a million McDonald's places, etc. I went to one of the worst schools there ever was, but it happened to be the best experience of my life. I made lots of interesting and slightly crazy new friends and in year 6 I was queen of the school!  Not because I had a face like a doll or brains of a genius... no, it was because I became best friends with the bully of the school, and I soon had a reputation that had everyone fearing me.

But I moved again in the last term of year 6, and now I'm in a tiny high school in a tiny town. I haven't met anyone quite the same as the friends from my last school, but I have realized how different the world can be in the bigger town.  You were cool if you got into at least 3 proper punch-ups a week and here in this tiny little town you're cool if... well, I haven't figured that one out yet, but I know it's not if you're rough or not!

So, next time you decide you want to fit in by looking like everyone else, know that everyone popular is probably like that because they're their own person and that they have their own look.  If that doesn't convince you, then remember that the magazines can't tell you what's cool or not, because if 4 hours away it's completely different from where you used to live, then what are the magazines, TV shows etc. comparing you to?

There is no answer for lots of things, but it doesn't matter if you know that you don't have to be a copy of someone cool in order to fit in!
