French fries, hamburgers and cheeseburgers, oh my! If you haven't already
realized, I'm writing this article about fast food restaurants. I know most of
you love them. I know for a fact my sister loves them very much, and I used to,
too. Up until a year ago, I used to love going to McDonald's and Wendy's, etc.,
but then I found out my oh-so-favorite restaurants weren't that good for me.
As a child, I would beg my mom to let me walk to McDonald's almost every day
after school or on weekends so I could enjoy some nice fast food. My mom would
never eat there, no matter how many times she took me. She would maybe
have a drink and some of the fries I couldn't scarf down myself.
One day when my mom said I couldn't go to McDonald's, I asked her why, and she
replied, "Because you were just there the other day." At the time, I didn't see
anything wrong with going there for a second time that week. Then she told me
how fast food isn't usually healthy. I wanted to know more -- she wasn't going
to put down my favorite place to eat without an argument!
The next time we went to McDonald's, my mom pointed out the fries being cooked
in a greasy bin and the hamburgers being cooked with grease also. What's the
point, I thought, you have to cook them somehow, right? So I turned to my
teacher to see what he could tell me on the topic. He explained to me about
healthy cooking and eating, and about calories and different things like that.
I was 12 years old at the time -- why should I be watching my
diet? Hm...! That's something for the rest of you to figure out!
This is my first article, so it's probably not perfect, but I hope to write
more.
