Hi! I'm Sonner. I have a new article for everyone about the weight
meeting in the Whyville Greek Theatre, that took place on Wednesday.
First off, City Workers MediaWiz, Bigfoot, Turnip and cyranojoe all showed up for
the occasion. It was absolutely great -- the turn out was very good, all the people
could hardly get in. We talked about anorexia and how the media
influences people's beliefs about their weight. We also talked about diet
pills.
I want to say that anorexia is actually a disorder, different from
being bulimic, as I understand it. Anorexia is a disorder where a person who believes they
are too fat, will literally starve themselves or eat very little at a
time. Over one million new cases are developed each year. Anorexia can
lead to death from starvation. People need a number of calories to
survive. You need at least around 1,100 calories to stay healthy -- it
depends on how old you are, some folks need a lot more to be healthy.
Anorexics eat way less then that and endanger themselves. People can
overcome anorexia with help. I even hear some people have to be fed
through a tube, if it gets too bad. People with anorexia lose tons of weight but become very
sick and may die. This is why people have to eat healthy amounts!
At the MediaHour, we talked about how the media influences people. Models all have photos
of themselves, lots of them are digitally altered to make them
skinnier and inhuman. People see that and say, "Why can't I be like
that?" So they diet and diet and diet and they don't lose weight, they
may actually gain more weight from dieting. People compare themselves to
false images of what they expect to be like. Some people think that celebrities are
unhealthy. But you see celebrities eating fast food all the time.
Celebrities will just always go to the gym and exercise. Which is what
people should probably do if they feel overweight. But you also see
people like Queen Latifah, Star Jones, Frenchie Davis and more 'heavy' celebs now who have talent and are in the Hollywood
business. So maybe
Hollywood is opening up to more people.
We talked about a lot more stuff, but I don't want to make this article
as long as Titanic, so I'll just do one more topic: diet pills.
Diet pills are most probably false. I saw a magazine which has a diet
pill claiming that people lose weight using this pill. They have before
and after photos of the person who has lost weight, but to my shock, if
you looked very closely, you should think, is that photo digitally
altered? They use it all the time on magazines -- why not on diet pill ads?
I saw another article and when you read the fine print -- it says the following:
1. Not approved by the FDA.
2. Exercise regularly.
3. Walk every 5 days for 30 minutes.
You notice how they don't say it in big fonts like the rest of the
page. They probably say all these things because when you do all those
things such as exercise regularly and walk for 30 minutes, you would
probably lose that weight on your own and not from the pill!
I want to know what people think of this article and if I may be correct
or wrong. Thanks.
Sonner :)
