You have not heard much from me here in the Times, but though I almost became extinct for quite
some time, I have returned with another piece of literature. Many of you have
read the editorials and articles and reminders over
the past couple of weeks. With much excitement, Whyville --
including the Times -- will be engrossed in many activities involving citizen's input and direction.
At the top of that list are the new Summer Staff additions to the Times. I read the
Editor's exposition and put much thought into whether
I should (or should not)
participate in this event. I conscripted a topic, researched it, wrote down my
sources, and sent it in. However, with all of my summer-activities, housework,
yard work, time with friends, family, job hunting, need-for-exercise and other
pastimes, this meant that accomplishing everything deemed difficult.
Therefore, I am hoping that Whyville will become more understanding. Of course,
I would like to be part of the Summer Staff collection -- and it is not that I show a lack of interest and initiative, for the past year
I have absorbed
myself in a writing-frenzy for the Times. Time seems like my chief enemy at
this moment.
Last week I heard news of a new Whyville Senate and plans to compose writing
contests and a workshop. It seems as if everything is happening at once! This means that I must
compose enough time and energy to create more articles for the Summer Staff
Contest, not to mention that I must be compelled to create an election platform
for the senate as well as investigate the role of Senator for a future Times article as
well as my own personal knowledge. On top of that, I must analyze the writing
contest and workshop and scrutinize whether I should be involved in those or not.
Falling behind has left me quite stupefied, because at the same time, all of the Solstice Safari
spots have been taken and there has been a ruckus over the face-parts being
deleted as they reach the fashion-recycle-box. Knowing the Times and the
citizens of Whyville, I am sure that the Times' inbox will be stuffed with complaints
and letters to the editor regarding these issues. Most likely, we will see these
in this -- or perhaps another future addition -- of our online newspaper.
Perhaps this is just my own explosion of thoughts, but I hope and urge the workers of Whyville
to put my thoughts to heart. I know that all
of these activities all at once are difficult to digest, let alone participate
in to
their fullest potential.
Upon further investigation, I have learned that there has also been an
introduction of a book club! Perhaps this is all too much for me to wheel and deal
with, folks! It may be true that I am getting much older (or much busier) to
take part in all that I would like to....
Too much of Bridget Jones and her doddering world may have possessed me to
splurge such thoughts together. The main point I am hoping to get across is that
there are just so many activities and so little time. It's difficult to consume.
Thoughts becoming shorter. Mind cannot cope. Might break down if I speak more
like what I am doing, which is turning out to be a run-on sentence...
Evergreen,
TIKE
Editor's Note: Indeed, TIKE, Whyville sure has been
a hotbed of activity compared to the past year... and that's more like it, as
far as I'm concerned! :-) You'll find that the more options you have,
though the choices get harder, the rewards are deeper. Having a broad
selection of activities to choose from means you have a better chance of
discovering exactly what you want to learn and what you want to do with your
life... or the next hour, at least. I hope you'll be able to get involved
in as many events as you'd enjoy, but don't burn yourself out! Balance is
important, too, as I think you and most citizens recognize.
Now, who's up for learning some Java programming? I
hear a rumor that there may be a game design contest sometime this summer...!
